Last June 28, I started writing about the A Song Of Ice And Fire series by George RR Martin. Some of you may have been interested and started reading the series of books. The release of HBO of the Game Of Thrones TV series, however, have made people prefer the TV show over the books. I must admit that after reading the books, watching the TV series gave me faces to the characters, a view of the scenery and added color to what I was trying to imagine before while reading the books.
I would say that there will be no spoiler alerts after you read the books and then watch the TV series as the show is more of a reinforcement on what you have read. Instead of imagining Westeros in your head, you will now be seeing it in full color. Like in the first season, Sean Bean as Ned Stark is an exact fit, just like what I imagined when I was reading the first book, A Game Of Thrones. Same with The Wall, while reading the book, I was having a difficult time trying to imagine how it looks like and then I see it on TV. What a feeling!
The sad part for me though is that the TV series does not exactly follow the storyline of the book series as the creators of the show have to use their artistic licenses to fit everything in a season. Nevertheless, it is still a good show and it will be a lot better if you read the books to fully understand the flow of the TV series.
The TV series, according to reports, has gained notoriety as the most pirated TV series every year since 2012. It was reported to have as much as 7 million downloads for one episode. This is one very popular TV show! This was mostly due to delays in showing in other parts of the world, cost of subscriptions plus inavailability of legal DVDs in stores.
